Crossing the Line Festival 2019

Sep 12–Oct 12

Experience innovative works by some of the most compelling French, Francophone, and American artists in six venues across New York City.

An annual arts festival, Crossing the Line is produced by the French Institute Alliance Française (FIAF) in collaboration with leading cultural institutions, which this year include Theatre for a New Audience, The Cooper Union for the Advancement of Science and Art, The Invisible Dog Art Center, ISSUE Project Room, and La MaMa.

Curator Note

"Since it was founded, Crossing the Line has fearlessly broken down borders between genres, locations, and languages. The festival is what drew me to New York last year, and as I set about programming its 13th edition, I focused on transcending barriers between generations and audiences. Two threads emerge in this edition: honoring legendary artists and celebrating identity beyond borders.

When I reflect on the festival, I am inspired by its name and contemplate the many lines we still need to cross in the complex world in which we live. Sometimes crossing a line can be seen as a form of transgression, even a bold act. But above all, it is a way of bringing us together.

I hope you will embark on this journey with us. The artists invite you to discover multiple identities and imagine new horizons."
